Past
Narcis' mother was a witch born during a time when a female had hardly any rights. Women were nothing more than second class citizens whom by the men however they saw fit. They could inherit lands and rule over estates, but only if they were strong enough to hold it and there wasn't any males within their family eligible to inherit them. This was the highest a female could rise. They couldn't reach a position of real political power. They couldn't become queen or a council member. The positions at the very top were for males only. Most females were content with their lot in life, or perhaps it was merely they thought it would never change so why complain. There were, however, a few whom wished for equality among the sexes. However, none of them managed to climb as high as Narcis mother did. His mother was considered the most powerful female witch to come along in centuries. Truth be told, it was a shame she wasn't born male, at least that what people said. If she had been there would have been no limit to the things she would achieve.
His mother sought to prove to people that it was not one's gender that determined what a person was able to achieve. She turned her sight towards the throne, but she knew with the ways things were that she could not claim the throne for her own. She could not challenge the currant king to a duel. Even if he accepted and she managed to win the throne would not go to her. It would go to the next eligible male--the king's heir if he had named one, and as a female she could not be his heir. So, having him put her within his will was out of the question. Through, even if she could manage to convince him to put her into his will she might have a very long time to wait before she inherit the throne if she didn't kill him herself. Witches did not die of old age, and while there were diseases that killed their people they weren't wide spread. There was no option of having a child with the king as he was believed to be sterile. However, just because she couldn't have a child with the king didn't mean she couldn't put her child upon the throne.
She decided that she would have a male child, and make him into the king that would bring about the changes she desired. She decided that she wouldn't have her child with another witch. She wished for her child to be unique and special---something that the world had not seen before. There was, also, the fact that if her child was born to another witch that his father would have more say within his upbringing than she and that was not something she could have. She searched the world for the man to be the father of her son, and it didn't take her long to find Narcis' father. He was an ice fairy, whom was known to be just as ambitious as she, and he was more than happy to help her with her plans when she told him about them. It didn't take her long to become pregnant with Narcis, and when he was finally born it was clear that he was not just a tool just to achieve anyone's goals. It was clear that both his mother and father loved him more than anything within this world and would stop at nothing to make him happy.
It was through this love that the implanted within him an ambitious nature, or perhaps he merely inherit it from them by simply being their biological child. Regardless, he was raised with the belief that their was nothing he couldn't achieve. The world was his for the taking. Narcis adored both his parents, but he was closest to his mother. In fact, some claimed they were lovers because they believed them to be too close. Narcis dismissed these rumors as nothing more than the creation of those whom were jealous that the relationship with their own mothers were extremely sour. However, whether or not there were any truth to these rumors it didn't change the fact that Narcis did put a lot of stock within his mother's opinions. He decided from an early age that he wished to become king and create the world that his mother had envisioned---one where women not mere toys to be toys to be used and tossed aside, but equal to men.
He forsake all childhood games--something that was not that difficult to do as the other children didn't wish to play with him due to whom his mother was. It was better to train with his mother instead of watching the other children play games he couldn't join. He spent his time focused upon his training---learning all the things that he would need to known to claim the title of king of the witches one day. Yet, it was not just for his mother sake that he trained, but for his father's as well. He was close enough to his father to decided to seek revenge upon a woman that his father was going to marry, but whom decided to scorn him by running off with another man. Narcis vowed that he would make this woman personally know the pain she had caused his father, and devoted part of his training to achieve just that.
Finally the day to claim the throne of the witches arrived. Narcis always knew that this day was going to come. He had spent his entire life training for its very moment, but he did not expect it to come in the manner that it had. Through, he should have. He was eighteen years old--the youngest age that someone could challenge the currant king to a duel. Narcis might have waited a while longer before issuing his challenge if it wasn't for the fact that the king had not only raped his mother but bind her to him as well. The currant king believing that Narcis was incapable of defeating him accepted his challenge, but he quickly discovered how mistaken he was. Narcis not only beat the king, but he killed him--something that was not necessarily to win the duel. He became king, and ruled over his people with an iron fist. He became a dictator whom made sure that the laws he wished to be passed were, and he destroyed anyone whom stood in his way. He knew that he needed to be vicious to force the changes that were needed to create the world his mother dreamt about.
While Narcis was creating his mother's ideal world the things that the previous king had done had a clear effect not only on her psyche, but her body as well. It seemed that the monarch before Narcis had not been as sterile as everyone had originally thought because Narcis' mother was carrying the old king's child. Narcis decided to cast a spell once his mother had given birth to his brother. The spell made his mother forget what the previous king had done to her, and in turn made her forget about giving birth to Narcis' brother. However, instead of doing what others might have expected him to do and getting rid of his brother in some manner he decided to raise his brother himself. He never kept the truth of his brother heritage from him nor did he held this truth against him. He was his brother that was all that mattered. Whom his father had been made no difference. Through, he knew not everyone would share this opinion.
Some would despise his brother simply for whom his parents had been. Others would see him as nothing more than a tool to ensure that his father's bloodline remained upon the throne of the witches as it had for centuries beyond counting, and many attempting to keep this bloodline going by kidnapping his brother and trying to turn his brother into the king they desired--one very much like his father and the kings that came before. Narcis always managed to find his brother even if it was not always as quickly as he might have liked. Than there was the fact that allowing the truth of his brother's heritage to be more out in the open might render the spell Narcis had cast pointless by allowing his mother to discover whom Narcis' brother really was, but so far his mother remains blissfully unaware. Whether she will discover the truth or whether she already had and is not as affected by it as many feared remains to be seen. What is clear is Narcis' mother had grown quite fond of his brother, and taken to teaching him how to use his powers just as she had taught Narcis.
Finally the day arrived for Narcis to get his vengeance upon the woman whom had scorned his father all those years ago, but death had found her before he could. She died bringing her daughter into the world. Narcis did not allow this to deter him. He declared that the mother's insult was a family's debt that the daughter needed to pay, and he would ensure that she did so. He watched the daughter for a few days to determine how to best proceed with collecting this debt. It was than that he noticed her husband. He was a dragon that was the pet of one of his father's friend--an angel whom Narcis held quite a fondness for. He returned to his father informing him of what he discovered as well as his plans to finally get his revenge upon the woman whom had insulted his father all those years ago. His father agreed to help him with his plan because like Narcis he saw this as a way to kill two birds with one stone. It would quench Narcis' thirst for revenge as well as reclaim the angel's pet.
His father approached the woman, and told her a bunch of lies regarding her husband. The woman did not believe these lies, but Narcis' father told her to chant a phrase within her husband's presence and the truth would be revealed. This chant was a spell that Narcis created to make her believe the lies that his father had attempted to feed her. They had no way of knowing if she would do as Narcis' father suggested, and if she didn't they would have to come up with a different plan to ensure their desire is met. However, it would not come to that way. The woman for whatever reason agreed to chant this phase she was given, and when she did everything that Narcis' father had old her proved to be true. Her husband cared nothing for any of them. Their children were nothing more than a source of income. However, something happened that Narcis had not intended. She viewed her children as demons coming to collect her children at that very moment, and she slaughtered them.
The dragon scooped up their four children and flew away to save at least one and to bury the rest--through they all knew that the likelihood of saving even one was nigh impossible. While the dragon had taken to the air he had let out a breath of cold fire that froze his wife into place. Through, it was clear that even if the dragon had not done such a thing that her days were number. The violence that had occurred during the entire ordeal had taken its toll upon the woman. Truth be told, freezing her as the dragon had might have saved her in the end because if he hadn't there never would have been enough time for Narcis' father to convince him bind the woman to him. All witches have the ability to bind someone to them--usually a human they had become extremely fond off. It is done through the sharing of blood. It is unclear what exactly the human becomes once the binding ritual is done. They are clearly immortal like the witch whom bond them, but they are unquestionable not witches.
There are those whom believe that the first vampires came from such bonding as the one Narcis' father encouraged him to perform with the woman. They claim that the process of making a human into a vampire mirrors that of witches' binding ritual, but how this came to be no one has any theories. Whether this is true or not is another story, but what is known is that witches do not do the binding ritual lightly. However, it was clear that while Narcis' did what his father asked that he was not able to save the woman's entire soul. Half of it managed to break off and go into the life stream to be reborn. At first, it was unclear which half remained behind. Was it the half that held her unwavering love and utter devotion for her husband, or was it the half that held an unquenchable thirst for revenge and an overwhelming hatred for the dragon. It didn't take them long to realize it was the latter.
Over the years, Narcis had grown extremely fond of the woman whom he had bond to him. He wants nothing more than to make her dream of revenge a reality as well as make her whole once again. It has become clear that possessing only half a soul is taking its toll upon her, or perhaps the part that he managed to bond to him was only a small sliver instead of half the soul as he originally believed. The only thing he knew, however, was he did not wish to lose his best friend. He concluded that the only way he was going to save her was finding the other piece of her soul and merge the two together. However, it didn't seem that the other piece of her soul was ever going to be reborn. Recently, he discovered that he had nothing to fear. She was just slow being reborn. He found her incarnation and made his desire to possess her clear. His father vowed to help him get the girl, and since his father has always been true to his word there is no doubt within Narcis' mind that his father will do as he says.
In the meantime, while he is waiting he deals with the responsibility of being king of the witches. Many of his people have accepted his absolute authority, but there are those whom wished to remove him from the throne. Some simply because they wished for things to return to the way they had been before he was king. They are the older witches or those whom had been told stories by these older witches that made the way things had been seem like an ideal world. Others simply because they find Narcis to be a tyrant. They are usually younger witches whom don't believe the picture that the older witches painted of things before Narcis was king, but many do believe things might have been better before he became king. He deals with those whom takes a more active role in trying to remove him from his throne in such a way that discourage others from doing the same thing--a fact that probably causes others to view him as an even bigger tyrant. He doesn't care he gladly accepted being considered a monster if that means protecting his people from the true monsters.
